Word Order of Adjectives in a Sentence

Adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe a noun, ie, a name, place, thing, &c.

In all these cases, clearly, the adjective is placed before the word it describes.

Examples are

• • • • A good movie
      • An accomplished dancer
      • A famous musician
      • A brave soldier
      • A soulful music

However, they can also come after the noun – in fact after the verb itself. So, for instance, with the above examples:

• • • • The movie was good.
      • The actor was accomplished.
      • The musician is famous.
      • The soldier is brave.
      • The music is soulful.

In the following cases the adjective is placed after the noun itself:

• • • • • He said something useful at the meeting.

Useful describes something

• • • • • Everyone present was laughing.

Present describes everyone

• • • • • Those responsible for the bombing were hanged.

Responsible describes those
