My thoughts on ‘Personality Development Courses’

This is a really strange course. Institutes and individuals offer these ‘personality development’ courses that teach you how to knot a tie, how to hold a knife and fork, how to walk, how to smile, how to shake hands. They teach you just about everything you already know. They promise you the stars. They swear that at the end of their program you will float in the clouds.

And you pay for this blatantly worthless course.

What IS your personality? Let’s see.

Your personality is what makes who you are, different from the others. So, what do you mean by developing your personality? It simply means you get others to notice you. You get to impress others positively.

And how do you do that? Not by your looks. Or the way you hold your knife and fork, or how you knot a tie. It is by letting people know about you. By speaking, conveying, communicating. You use the right words, proper pronunciation, and clear body language, your knowledge and humility, your positive attitude, and your respect for the others and yourself. You speak fluently and correctly. You tell people clearly what they want to hear. When they comprehend what you say and give you the feedback that tells you they have understood you, you have communicated properly. Your personality has stood out. You get appreciated.

In other words, personality is the degree of excellence of your communication skills, apart from your values and upbringing. Do not get carried away by the promise of the fake personality development courses. Just improve your communication skills and believe in your values, and your personality improves automatically.
